Miranda Pearson is a poet and educator, and lives in Vancouver. She was born in England and came to Canada in 1991 to work as a Psychiatric Nurse. Miranda completed her Masters Degree at UBC’s Department of Creative Writing, where she then taught for two years. Since then she has worked as an instructor at Simon Fraser University’s Writer’s Studio, where she offers group workshops and one-to-one consultation on poetry manuscripts. Miranda also works as a reviewer and freelance editor.

Miranda’s poems have been published in many literary journals and anthologies. Her first book, Prime, was published in 2001, and her most recent collection, The Aviary, was released in 2006. The Aviary was awarded the Alfred G. Bailey Prize. She has read her work at many festivals and literary events including the Vancouver International Writer’s Festival.

Miranda’s poetry explores the joys, struggles and griefs inherent in a contemporary woman’s life, it is also  concerned with questions of ecology. Of Prime, Roo Borson wrote: “Prime delves into the interstices of the family with an intelligence that—beyond the obvious verbal gifts—is sharp-eyed, double-edged, buoyant, and quick. This is a deeply startling and accomplished book”.

This author is available for workshops or individual sessions with high school students working on poetry, ages 13 up.
