Jacqueline Pearce grew up on Vancouver Island, intrigued by local history and the possible stories in the places around her. It is no surprise that her first novel, The Reunion (Orca 2002), set in a small, multicultural sawmill town, tells one of those stories.

Jacqueline also returns to Vancouver Island for Discovering Emily (Orca 2004) and its sequel, Emily's Dream (Orca 2005), both novels about the childhood of Canadian artist Emily Carr.

Other themes in Jacqueline's writing include relationships between people and animals and between people and nature. Weeds and other stories (Thistledown 2003) is a collection of short stories about young people whose lives are touched by wildlife and nature in the city. Dog House Blues (Orca 2005) and The Truth About Rats (and Dogs) (Orca 2006) are award- nominated novels inspired by Jacqueline's experience with her own pets and with the BC SPCA Kids' Club.

Manga Touch (Orca 2007), in a departure from the author's usual local settings, takes readers along on a teenage character's exchange trip to Japan.

In classroom visits and presentations, Jacqueline talks about the writing process and shares photos and stories from her research.
