| Lenore Rowntree is an award-winning writer based in British Columbia. She grew up and was educated in Toronto, then moved to Vancouver where she practiced law for several years before becoming a high school teacher. Her first short story was published during her teaching years. Publication was so exciting, it somehow caused her to begin painting and exhibiting, as well as return to the practice of law. A potential career collision was averted when she became a full-time writer. Her short stories and poetry have been published in Other Voices, The New Quarterly and ink magazine. Her personal essays and creative non-fiction have been published in Geist Magazine, The Tyee, The Globe and Mail, and the Vancouver Courier. Her self-illustrated poetry collection for children, Love Letters, won a gold medal in 2007 from the Moonbeam Children's Book Awards. She is the co-editor of a collection of essays on mental health and developmental issues expected to be published soon. She has led numerous creative writing workshops for teens and middle school students, and enjoys the classroom. As well, she has an affinity for working with mental health consumers and the learning disabled, and has led workshops with various mental health organizations in the lower mainland. |
